May 10, 2011 by Kurt Turner

Mashable did a great job bringing this to the fold for me, foursquare campaigns! Free local advertizing for your business via one of the hottest mobile apps out.

Mashable also had a great write-up about promoting local events with various social media outlets here http://mashable.com/2010/10/04/event-planning-social-media/

The basics are you can promote your company to help drive traffic into your store by publishing a HOT foot traffic promotion:

Create a Special

  • Click on “Manager Tools”
  • Click on “Campaigns”
  • Click on “Start a Campaign”
  • Click on “Add a Special”

Here you’ll have some options:

Swarm Special – specify the # of customers who need to be checked in to unlock something.

Friends Special – reward friends who come to your place and check in together.

Flash Special – first number of “x” people to check in get a free x etc..

Newbie Special – first time customer / check in reward

Loyalty Special – rewards for x number of check ins

Mayor Special – reward for your most active customer

Write Your Special – but why? =)

Now the remaining steps are straight forward. You’ll want to show your staff how to tell the difference between an unlocked and a locked special is color. If the customer didn’t meet the requirements their cell phone will show black and white.. a customer who is entitled will be in color!
