Top three free security utilities for your harddrive

If you have read my how to erase a harddrive tutorial then you know I’m a big proponent of free software. Here is my top three free utilies for 2009.

  1. Darik’s Boot and Nuke (“DBAN“) load this up to your floppy or other bootable disk and you can securely wipe the harddrive of most computers.
  2. Bacula is a set of Open Source, enterprise ready, computer programs that permit you (or the system administrator) to manage backup, recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of computers of different kinds.
  3. Free open-source disk encryption software for Windows Vista/XP, Mac OS X, and Linux
