Adsense Hosted Account: Adding Your Website

October 5, 2012 by Kurt Turner

If you already monetized your youtube account with adsense, (or blogger / some other hosted account) you can then add domains (your website) to your Google Adsense hosted account via the Account -> Site Authorization area.

These instructions are specific to my sports blog, but will work for any website.

5 Easy Steps, as follows:

Step 1

Log into Google Adsense

Step 2

Click this link, which brings you straight to the Account -> Site Authorization area. Now add your domain, as seen below. Also discussed here on google support forum.

Step 3

Create two ad units. Click “My Ads” in the upper menu.

Your going to make 2 ad units to display on our website (FantasyKnuckleheads).

  • Ad Unit 1 is the 336 x 280 – Large Rectangle
  • Ad Unit 2 is the 468 x 60 Banner

I’ve included an image here for visual learners but here’s the process. Follow to the T.

Click NEW AD UNIT

Capture

Ad Unit 1 – the 336 x 280 – Large Rectangle

  1. Name: FK 336
  2. Ad Size: 336 x 280 – Large Rectangle
  3. Ad type: leave default!
  4. Backup Ads: leave default!
  5. Custom channels: create one, name it FK 336 *makes reporting easier
  6. Ad style – click “Use Custom Settings” button
  7. Border: FFFFFF
  8. Title: 004276
  9. Background: FFFFFF
  10. Text: 000000   (zeros)
  11. URL: 000000  (zeros)

Now click “Save and Get Code” – You’ll need to copy it into notepad or an email then grab the data-ad-client and data-ad-slot – as seen in the image below.

In the example above you would need to copy:

  • ca-pub-3xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx9
  • 6xxxxxxxx7

Step 4

Repeat the above process but this time you’re making your second Ad Unit, Ad Unit 2 – is the 468 x 60 Banner

  1. Name: FK 468
  2. Ad Size: 468 x 90 – Banner
  3. Ad type: leave default!
  4. Backup Ads: leave default!
  5. Custom channels: create one, name it FK 468 *makes reporting easier
  6. Ad style – click “Use Custom Settings” button
  7. Border: FFFFFF
  8. Title: 004276
  9. Background: FFFFFF
  10. Text: 000000   (zeros)
  11. URL: 000000  (zeros)

Now click “Save and Get Code” – You’ll need to copy it into notepad or an email then grab the data-ad-slot. (we already have your publisher number from the previous set)

So now you’ll have the following text, unique to you.. the below numbers are just an example.

  • ca-pub-3xxxxxxxxxxxxxx9 (this is your unique publisher number)
  • 3xxxxxxxxxx3  (this one is for 336 ad unit)
  • 6xxxxxxxxxx7  (this one is for 468 ad unit)

Final Step: (for my blog users only – if you’re not part of my shared revenue blog then you can skip this step).

Step 5

Log into FK and go to your profile. Scroll down and enter your codes – pay attention that the proper ad sizes are entered into the correct slots!

Click “Update Profile” at the bottom of the page. Feel free to enter your bio and other items.

*some publish ID’s will say “ca-pub” and others just “pub” – enter in whichever google gave you, in full”.

enter-adsense-codes

NOW go to your articles and update the post by clicking “Update” – this will “write” the ads into your existing post, since they currently do not contain your ads. After clicking update – click view post and there should be blank ads space above and below your articles – once google activates/approves) your ads to run on our blog, you’ll see ads.

Never ever click our ads, especially yours! It will get your Google Adsense banned. Never ask people to click the ads either. Just let it happen naturally, the earnings will increase naturally over time.

Cheers
